What: The College and School of the Ozarks are excited to launch a teacher training this summer! This summer we will begin with a Level 1 training aimed at teachers in their first few years. Over the next several years, we hope to be able to add additional levels for discipline-specific training (Level 2) and the training of teachers who train other teachers (Level 3).

For the Level 1 Training this summer, teachers will arrive on Monday evening and get checked into their room at Lively Hall, one of the College of the Ozarks beautiful new dormitories. Tuesday and Wednesday will be full days of training (8:15am-4:30pm), and Thursday will conclude the training with a half day of sessions (8:15am-noon).

When: July 22-25, 2024

Where: College of the Ozarks

Price & Details: The cost for the training is $395 and is all-inclusive, covering food, lodging, and training. Participants will be allocated a room in our new dormitory located on the College of the Ozarks campus. Additionally, meals will be provided at our on-campus cafeteria.

Who: Level 1 is focused on teachers in their first few years, but any teacher is welcome to register, regardless of experience.

Why: We all desire to be better teachers, and taking the time to learn from experience teachers who prepare and present these trainings is a great way to increase understanding of the classical Christian education movement, develop and grow in the art of teaching, and establish new friendships to help encourage and inform one another.

How: The Level 1 training will emphasize Purpose, Preparation, Pedagogy, and Portrait. Here is a brief summary of what will be covered.

1. Purpose - In the K-12 classroom, defining and cultivating wisdom and virtue involves clarifying the purpose of CCE for parents, students, and the community, as well as understanding and fostering wisdom and virtue within the classroom setting. This process requires addressing key questions such as what wisdom and virtue entail, how they can be nurtured among students, and how our educational purpose shapes our outlook on these principles.

2. Preparation - Learn to transform curriculum goals into effective lesson plans and establish a strong foundation for the school year by welcoming students, communicating expectations, and framing the academic calendar.

3. Pedagogy (2 Seminars)

  • Trivium Integration: Learn to apply the Trivium model in K-12 education.
  • Classical Pedagogy: Gain insights into teaching facts, skills, and ideas, along with effective assessment, classroom management, and the principles of teaching.

4. Portrait - Discover how to implement the ideal graduate profile in K-12 education, incorporating it into classroom practice and aligning educational choices with the overarching mission.
